Orange Business and VMware to deliver flexible SD-WAN

In efforts to further streamline customer experience, Orange Business & VMware strengthen their existing partnership via automation & an embedded SD-WAN

Orange Business and VMware are expanding their partnership to transform Flexible SD-WAN and ultimately simplify customer experience with digitalisation and automation.

The companies are hoping to offer the first fully embedded SD-WAN in Orange Business’ Evolution Platform, which combines a secured digital infrastructure with an agile cloud approach to order and manage services.

It is no secret that cloud has fast become a benchmark for customer experience, as performance and trust are now viewed as a non-negotiable service. In fact, “the real business impact of the cloud is yet to come,” as Microsoft’s Nick McQuire said at Cloud and 5G LIVE.

Securing the cloud end-to-end

SD-WAN (software-defined wide area network) is a wide area network that uses software-defined networking technology, such as communicating over the Internet using overlay tunnels which are encrypted.

Orange Business is aiming to transform the way it provides the latest services from its ecosystem of partners both natively and digitally via Evolution Platform. The service platform enables enterprise customers to create their own mix of services to meet their evolving business requirements, whilst also benefiting from the performance of the Orange world-class infrastructure.

The company has partnered with VMware for more than 10 years as they both work together to accelerate digital transformation and allow businesses to run, connect and secure applications across clouds and devices.

The goal of these offerings is to ensure that businesses will be able to access a catalogue of products, including Flexible SD-WAN with VMware, via a self-service console or through an API, using Evolution Platform. Automation in the platform will work to simplify the management of a customer’s entire digital infrastructure for secured user-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud connectivity, as well as for voice services and end-to-end visibility.

Flexible SD-WAN with VMware are aiming to address the needs of today’s highly distributed, latency-sensitive workloads, applications and devices at the edge. Its offerings will work to provide advanced automation capabilities and an optimal user experience when accessing remote applications - ultimately improving employee productivity.

Faster connectivity to enable faster business agility

Companies will also be able to bring up sites faster, using 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, or satellite for hard-to-service locations. In addition, edge devices are auto-provisioned which will lower both IT costs and deployment times.

Furthermore, Orange Business customers consuming Flexible SD-WAN with VMware via Evolution Platform will benefit from a global network of Super Points of Presence (PoPs). These Super PoPs are located along the Orange Tier 1 global backbone, close to the customer and cloud providers and significantly lower latency for applications and services, as well as providing needed business agility.

“We’re excited to bring the flexibility and enhanced performance of VMware SD-WAN to the Evolution Platform by Orange Business,” says Sanjay Uppal, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Service Provider and Edge at VMware.

“As a key element of our software-defined edge portfolio, SD-WAN allows organisations to modernise their digital infrastructure and monetise their network overlays by reducing networking infrastructure, providing zero trust and zero-touch pull-based capabilities and network programmability.”

He continues: “Together with Orange Business, we will provide a more secure, reliable and scalable connectivity to organisations of all sizes across all industries.”
