Cloud & 5G LIVE: Exploring the future of cloud computing

Microsoft’s Nick McQuire talked Cloud & 5G LIVE’s audience through how organisations can prepare to thrive with the next wave of disruptive technologies

A globally-recognised thought leader and AI influencer with a passion for artificial intelligence, Nick McQuire, Director of Product Management in Microsoft’s Strategic Missions and Technologies division, graced Cloud & 5G LIVE’s virtual stage last month talking through how innovation and disruptive technology take on heightened importance as the keys to resiliency and growth thanks to the uncertainty in today’s economic landscape.

During his keynote Exploring the Future of Cloud Computing, McQuire delved into how organisations can be prepared to thrive with the next wave of disruptive technologies that are shaping the future direction of cloud computing including, including modern connected apps, 5G and space, AI co-reasoning and quantum at scale.

Exploring the Future of Cloud Computing with Nick McQuire, Director of Product Management, Strategic Missions and Technologies, Microsoft

Sharing Microsoft’s perspective on the core incubations of tomorrow, McQuire shared major innovation shifts coming down the line that will shape the future of Microsoft and other businesses, over the next three to five years. “The real  business impact of the cloud is yet to come,” he said.

The sentiment that remained throughout the entirety of McQuire’s keynote was that Microsoft has a clear vision for the future of cloud computing, and has an unwavering commitment to partnering with customers to drive innovation in these emerging technology areas.

McQuire added: “These groundbreaking innovations of the future aren't going to come necessarily from the technology companies. They're going to come from customers. We want to partner and co-innovate in these areas.

“We absolutely see ourselves as a catalyst in that sense.”

And as a catalyst driving change in emerging technology areas, McQuire emphasised the importance of Microsoft's role in facilitating innovation and helping its customers gain competitive advantages in these areas.

But overall, McQuire stressed how the expansion cloud computing, driven by technologies like 5G and space-based connectivity, will fuel the future of modern connected applications

These technologies, in McQuire’s eyes, are reshaping connected applications and providing more resiliency in remote and challenging environments. “What we're going to see is emerging technologies and connectivity-driven technologies like 5G and space,” he emphasised. “They're expanding the cloud even further. They're helping us put compute in the tough-to-reach areas. And this is changing the paradigm for connected applications in the process."
