MWC Shanghai: GSMA’s winners of the 2024 Asia Mobile Awards

At the 2024 MWC Shanghai, the GSMA has revealed the winners of the 2024 Asia Mobile Awards, a prestigious accolade for the connectivity industry

Day Two of MWC Shanghai kicked off with the announcement of the winners of the GSMA Asia Mobile Awards (AMOs), during a ceremony at the Grand Shanghai Ballroom at the Kerry Hotel.

The awards celebrate the individuals, organisations and partnerships that are ‘enhancing the world through connectivity with innovative technology, mobile devices and leadership’ which move the industry forward.

MWC Shanghai has welcomed back leaders from across the mobile and telco space, to the Shanghai New International Expo Center, for the biggest and most influential gathering of the connectivity ecosystem in Asia.

Judged by industry experts, the awards were announced during the opening keynote:

Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough in Asia

Midea, AIS, China Unicom, and Huawei; First 5G Fully-Connected Factory

Together, Midea, AIS, China Unicom and Huawei have built the first 5G fully-connected factory, in Southeast Asia the ‘Midea 5G Fully-Connected Factory’.

The construction of this factrory sets a new standard for smart manufacturing, where efficiency, safety and automation unite for comprehensive 5G network coverage.

The network supports factory operation requirements and leverages intelligent industry applications, which facilitate manufacturing scenarios and interconnects each production line.

Asia 5G Industry Innovation Award

China Telecom 5G deterministic network applications in smart manufacturing

Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd, have teamed up with China Telecom, Huawei and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, to explore intelligent steel production by a 5G deterministic network. 

Relying on low latency, high reliability and large uplink bandwidth of 5G deterministic network, many application scenarios with network reliability requirement of 99.999% have been launched. These include remote control of overhead cranes, remote control of stacker-reclaimer, 5G slag adding robots, automatic driving of heavy-load AGV and 5G AI scrap steel grading, as well as steel surface quality inspection.

Samsung Galaxy S24 AI Experience

Samsung introduced Galaxy AI features on its S24 series, Samsung’s first AI phone. To bring the benefits of Gen AI to the Galaxy S24 series Samsung took a hybrid approach to its AI integration.

“This exciting news is all part of the extension of our commitment to Galaxy AI and entering the next phase of the mobile AI era,” said Won-joon Choi, Head of Mobile R&D Office, Mobile eXperience Business, at Samsung Electronics. “The introduction of Galaxy AI on Galaxy S24 series was only the start. To deliver a completely new and unique AI experience, we will further optimise the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices. Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities.”

Honor Magic V2
