The role of telco in the AI era

TM Forum helps its members create opportunities across the communications industry. At DTW Ignite, Innovate, Accelerate and Collaboration events, TM Forum offers its members a platform for industry change-makers to share their latest innovations, market developments, product launches and more.

At 2023’s event, there was a ‘code red’ warning from TM Forum, where industry professionals, including over 1,000 from Communication Service Providers (CSPs), met at Copenhagen to structure the role of telco in the AI era.

Senior leaders from CSPs, as well as hyperscalers, software vendors and systems integrators worked to an agenda of keynotes, masterclasses, live demonstrations, innovation showcases and hackathons, with a clear focus to ‘reimagine the industry’s purpose through collaboration and co-innovation’.

Over the three day event this year, we saw:
  • The launch of ODA Component & Canvas Certification
  • Fresh industry collaborations within the API partner programme
  • Advantageous outcomes delivered through the new TM Forum Innovation Engine.

TM Forum’s Executive network was new this year, which saw CEOs, CTOs, CIOs and CFOs take collective leadership for three new strategic goals, developed by TM Forum members:

  • Composable IT & Ecosystems – delivering a plug & play, AI-fluent ecosystem
  • Autonomous Network Operations – enabling seamless, intelligent automation at scale
  • Data & AI Innovation – unleashing new revenue streams.

TM Forum DTW: AI propositions and protecting telco partnerships

For Nik Willetts, CEO of TM Forum, the telecoms industry has stepped up to the challenge laid down nine months ago.

“This week we’ve seen a crisper focus, more courage and optimism, ready to reimagine our value proposition in the emerging AI era. To connect. To protect. To create new value by opening our capabilities,” he said. “This week in Copenhagen, we saw how this future can be realised: with our members and through our strategic Missions. With a 21% increase in CSP attendance, it’s clear that DTW – Ignite is the place where the industry convenes to co-create answers. The time for talk is over – we need action.”

TM Forum thanked all of its show partners and sponsors, including diamond partners Amdocs and AWS and platinum partners Beyond Now, Ericsson, Huawei, Netcracker, Oracle and Tecnotree.
