Mina Justa uses StraconTech IoT to Revolutionise Mine Safety

Actility's CEO, Olivier Hersent, vows to propel IoT for worldwide safety and efficiency following the triumph of their pioneering mining solution

In response to a 29% surge in mining accidents, Mina Justa in Peru is leading the charge in worker safety by integrating IoT technology. Collaborating with StraconTech, Abeeway, and Actility, the major copper project aims to establish new benchmarks in safety within the mining industry.

StraconTech, the tech arm of the STRACON group, has partnered with IoT tracking specialists Abeeway and IoT connectivity solution experts Actility. Together, they have developed a cutting-edge IoT worker safety solution tailored for the demanding environment of major mining projects.

The core of the safety solution relies on real-time and historical tracking of individuals within blasting zones. This approach minimises work accidents and enhances operational efficiency. The solution employs LoRaWAN connectivity, reducing costs and expanding coverage for increased effectiveness.

Mobile technology for mining safety

Jonathan Prieto Abasolo, Chief Technology Officer at STRACON Technologies, emphasises the project's dual significance. "The project at Mina Justa is not only a technological achievement but also a testament to our commitment to customer satisfaction."

Abasolo acknowledges the pivotal roles played by strategic partners Actility and Abeeway. "We are proud to have partnered with them and to have delivered a solution that significantly improves the safety of mine workers."

Olivier Hersent, Actility CEO, expresses satisfaction at the technology's role in enhancing worker safety. "It’s gratifying to see our technology contributing to the significant enhancement of worker safety at Mina Justa."

He emphasises the technology's broader significance. "This project exemplifies the power of collaboration and innovation. The success and expansion of this solution inspire us to continue pushing the boundaries of IoT for a safer and more efficient world."

Mina Justa's integration of IoT technology stands as a beacon for advancing worker safety in the mining industry, with a collaborative approach that fosters innovation and pushes the boundaries of what IoT can achieve for a safer and more efficient world.
