OPPO to make AI Phones Accessible to 50m Smartphone Users

Making AI phones accessible with Oppo
Oppo has shared its commitment to democratise its smartphones, by making AI phones accessible to everyone & bringing Gen AI to 50m users before 2025

OPPO has revealed that it aims to make AI phones accessible to 50m additional users by the end of the year and bring Gen AI across all OPPO smartphones. Gen AI enhances smartphone entertainment, mobile efficiency and more.

OPPO was founded in 2004 and has had an “Inspiration Ahead” attitude with a vision to empower its users. The company also has a strong focus on manufacturing smartphones that pride themselves on having impressive camera capabilities. It continues to expand and explore phone technology, having invented the world's first rotating camera smartphone in 2013 and launching the world's then thinnest smartphone in 2014. In 2023, we ranked Oppo Find X5 Pro as one of our Top 10 smartphone cameras of the year. The Oppo Find X5 Pro boasts exceptional camera capabilities with its impressive 50MP f/1.7 primary sensor and 50MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor that produce bright, colourful and detailed images.

OPPO to democratise AI phones and bring Gen AI to all smartphones

In the past ten years, OPPO has made more than 5,000 patents related to AI inventions, 70% are related to AI imaging. In more recent years, OPPO has led the development of its own Language Models and was the first smartphone company to deploy a Large Language Model (LLM) with 7 billion parameters, directly on the device. Now with its advanced AI technologies, OPPO has extended more than 100 Gen AI features to its phones this year.

In addition to this, a report from the IDC "Time to Democratise the Impact of AI Tech" suggests that shipments for AI phones costing less than US$1000 are expected to grow by 250% by the end of 2024.

OPPO has stood firm in its belief that AI should not be exclusive to just its flagship phones, but AI should be accessible to users all across the world.

To do this, OPPO is partnering with a number of industry leaders.
  • Google: OPPO's Reno12 series and the next-generation Find X Flagship will feature the Google Gemini family LLMs, enabling OPPO users to secure convenient AI features, such as AI Recording Summary features
  • MediaTek: OPPO and MediaTek are tuning chips to advance chip storage and computational efficiency across OPPO’s models.
  • Microsoft: The next-generation of OPPO phones will be equipped with Microsoft capabilities, which will make way for improved connectivity between desktop AI and phones.

OPPO’s relentless efforts and commitment will make AI phones accessible to everyone

Nicole Zhang, General Manager of AI Product at OPPO shared that the transition from smartphones to AI phones will be a long-term evolution that continuously transforms the mobile experience.

"We believe that the intelligent OS will be embedded with AI Agents and support multimodal interaction, meanwhile the third-party services will be provided in a more flexible way. This will result in a full-stack transformation and ecosystem restructuring of AI phones," she said.

"With our relentless efforts and commitment, OPPO aims to make AI phones accessible to everyone," added Billy Zhang, President of Overseas MKT, Sales and Service at OPPO. "For the first time in the industry, OPPO is bringing Generative AI to all product lines. By the end of this year, we expect to bring Generative AI features to about 50m users."
