Apple: iOS 18 makes iPhone more Secure, Personal & Private

The iOS 18 will be available this autumn
Apple has announced the new customisation options for iOS 18, including the redesign of photos, Apple Intelligence & an iPhone personal intelligence system

Apple has previewed iOS 18, a release which offers more customisation options, a redesign of the Photos app, new ways to manage the Mail inbox and messaging over satellite. The new Home Screen will allow users to arrange apps and widgets and customise the buttons at the bottom of the Lock Screen and exciting new text effects arrive on iMessage.

iOS 18 is supported by the same technology as existing iPhone satellite capabilities, except that users can now communicate over satellite in the Messages app when a cellular or Wi-Fi connection isn’t available.

It’s out this autumn… Here's what’s in store.

From sending money between iPhones to sharing music, the iOS 18 has it

Also introduced on iOS 18, is ChatGPT which is integrated into Siri and system wide Writing Tools on Apple’s range of platforms. This will let users access ChatGPT’s expertise, without jumping from one tool to another.

The personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad and Mac is Apple Intelligence, which combines the power of generative models with personal context, to provide intelligence that’s both useful and relevant.

  • Using Apple Cash, users can send and receive money by holding two iPhone devices together.
  • SharePlay on Apple Music lets users share control of music playing from HomePod, Apple TV, or any Bluetooth-enabled speaker.

Personal intelligence is Apple Intelligence, with privacy as paramount

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, said that he was thrilled to introduce iOS 18.

“It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customisation and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. There are so many benefits for everyone,” said Craig.

Craig and the whole engineering team are proud of what they have achieved with iOS 18, which gives users even greater control of their online presence, with tools to manage who can see their apps, how contacts are shared and how their iPhone connects to accessories.

Apple has set a new standard for AI privacy with Private Cloud Compute, which offers the ability to flex and scale computational capacity between on-device processing and server-based models which run on Apple’s silicon servers. When requests run through Private Cloud Compute, data is not accessed by Apple and it only fulfils the user’s requests.

“This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core,” added Craig. “We can’t wait for users to experience it.”
