Patrik Hofbauer to succeed Allison Kirkby as Telia CEO

Joining from Swedish gambling firm Svenska Spel, Hofbauer will take on Kirkby’s role of CEO at Telia from 1 February 2024

Following the announced departure of its CEO Allison Kirkby over the summer, Patrik Hofbauer has been appointed President and CEO of Swedish telecommunications company Telia by its Board of Directors.

Hofbauer’s predecessor will join the BT Group as its first female CEO.

Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, Telia Company’s Chair of the Board, said: “Patrik has a strong track record of transforming businesses that operate in complex environments, while building highly motivated teams that are focused on customer value creation and growth. The Board and I are convinced that Patrik is the right person to lead as President and CEO together with Telia’s experienced executive management team and dedicated colleagues across the organisation.”

Currently CEO of Swedish gambling firm Svenska Spel — a position he has held for the last five years — Hofbauer has had a vast and varied career thus far.

Erik Strand, Chairman of the Board at Svenska Spel, added: “Through his solid knowledge, great commitment and brilliant leadership qualities, Patrik Hofbauer has successfully led Svenska Spel during a time of major changes for the company.”

The seasoned CEO boasts a number of executive roles in his career back catalogue. He served as CEO of Norwegian multinational telecommunications company Telenor in Sweden for four years from 2014, and was Telenor Broadcasting’s CEO in Norway from 2011.

Before this, the 54-year-old was CEO of Clear Channel, CEO of Canal Digital and CEO of NEC Scandinavia.

Hofbauer is a Board member of Swedish home improvement chain Clas Ohlson and Chairman of the Board of Presto Holding, which offers fire protection, first aid and safety training.
