Google Cloud & Samsung Bring Gen AI to Smartphones
In an exciting move for technology lovers, smartphone users and those keeping up with AI’s development for daily consumer use, Samsung has partnered with Google Cloud to deploy generative AI in its upcoming smartphone devices.
“Together with Samsung, Google Cloud sees the tremendous opportunity for generative AI to create meaningful mobile experiences that stimulate and strengthen connection and communication for millions,” says Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.
“With Gemini, Samsung’s developers can leverage Google Cloud’s world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance, and flexibility to deliver safe, reliable, and engaging generative AI powered applications on Samsung smartphone devices.”
Kurian has been Google Cloud’s CEO since 2019, having previously spent over two decades at technology leader Oracle. He ranked number one in Technology Magazine’s Top 100 Leaders 2023 for his industry-defining commitment to technological excellence and development, particularly in the gen AI space.
Bringing AI to the daily consumer smartphone market
The multi-year partnership will bring Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI to smartphone devices starting with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, making Samsung the first Google Cloud partner to deploy the technology, and bringing Gemini Nano to the Android 14 operating system.
Samsung users will be able to summarise features across Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard.
“Google and Samsung have long shared deeply-held values around the importance of making technology more helpful and accessible for everyone. We’re thrilled that the Galaxy S24 series is the first smartphone equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI,” shares Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.
“After months of rigorous testing and competitive evaluation, the Google Cloud and Samsung teams worked together to deliver the best Gemini-powered AI experience on Galaxy.”
With a background in engineering, Yoon joined Samsung in 2003 as an engineer in the Mobile Communication Division and has spent the past three decades moving up in the ranks of the company.
