Outdoor Wireless Networks provide wireless infrastructure for mobile networks
CommScope has agreed to sell its Outdoor Wireless Networks and Distributed Antenna Systems businesses to Amphenol Corporation

Network connectivity expert CommScope has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Outdoor Wireless Networks (OWN) segment and the Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) business unit of its Networking, Intelligent Cellular & Security Solutions segment, to electronics manufacturer Amphenol Corporation.

Outdoor Wireless Networks offer solutions

Amphenol is one of the biggest manufacturers you’ve never heard of. Founded in 1932 and based in Connecticut, Amphenol is a Fortune 500 company with 90,000 employees globally. Its products are a core ingredient in many electronic devices, such as Fiber Optic Connectors.

CommScope is keen on pushing the boundaries of communications technology to create the world’s most advanced networks. The company designs, manufactures, instals and supports the hardware infrastructure and software intelligence which enable the digital society to thrive. The company drives wireless networks forward to power progress and create lasting connections.

Through this new agreement, CommScope will receive US$2.1bn in cash, to be paid by Amphenol upon closing. The sale is expected to close within the first half of 2025.

Outdoor Wireless Networks

Outdoor Wireless Networks provide wireless connectivity across large geographic areas, including urban, suburban and rural environments. Such networks deliver internet access where traditional wired infrastructure is either impractical or costly - or both. Outdoor Wireless Networks provides:

  • Wide area coverage, including for remote areas which lack terrestrial networks
  • Wi-Fi which extends across parks, campuses and public spaces
  • 4G, 5G, and LTE for broad mobile internet access

Distributed Antenna Systems

The DAS business provides solutions for cellular infrastructure inside venues, campuses and enterprises.

A Distributed Antenna System is a network of spatially separated antenna nodes which are connected to a common source through a transport medium which provides wireless services within a specific area or property.

"CommScope has a strong reputation for driving innovation and value for our customers. This transaction allows CommScope to increase focus and further strengthen its CommScope NEXT priorities with its remaining segments and business units,” said Chuck Treadway, CEO at CommScope. “We believe CommScope’s OWN and DAS businesses are positioned to continue to perform well under Amphenol’s leadership.”

Success across CommScope and Amphenol
