Look back on Cloud & 5G LIVE in this session with Paul Graham of Oracle, where he discussed challenges and opportunities of 5G private networks

There’s no denying that 5G is a transformative technology that unlocks a wealth of opportunities, and that was highlighted by Oracle Consulting’s Paul Graham at Cloud & 5G LIVE in October.

Delving into the challenges associated with integrating 5G private networks and exploring potential solutions to address them, Graham covered both technical and commercial issues, giving a comprehensive understanding of the topic.

In his keynote presentation, Graham gave real world examples into the use and deployments of 5G private networks, and also looked forward to what the future of this technology could look like and how it can potentially be applied.

“There is no innovation without connectivity” was Graham’s overwhelming message from his session. Using real-life examples, such as packed-out football stadiums or mass gatherings for events such as King Charles’ coronation, he highlighted with heat maps why the likes of private networks are — and should more widely be considered — an essential service, with thousands more being put out because of necessity.

“Private networks and hybrid solutions are essential for addressing connectivity needs in various sectors,” he professed. With the benefits of the development of 5G private networks and the plethora they are then expected to bring widely discussed, he also shone a light on a number of challenges that need to be overcome.

Throughout his session in promoting the power of this transformative and disruptive technology, Graham did not fail to also acknowledge how environmental consciousness factors in. “Sustainability is not a nice-to-have. It's about business viability,” he said.

Leaving the Cloud & 5G LIVE virtual audience with valuable insights into the obstacles faced by 5G private networks and the strategies that can be employed to overcome them, Graham concluded his keynote by emphasising how he feels 5G private networks will become essential services, particularly as connectivity needs continue to grow.

“The future lies in shared infrastructure, particularly in the cloud, to make 5G networks economically viable,” he stressed.

While connectivity is crucial, there is ongoing work to address the challenges and opportunities of 5G private networks, he added, and simplicity and consolidation in managing the complexities of private networks is key to its ongoing success.
