Telefónica Germany Supports Netskope’s SSE Technology

A partnership between Telefónica Germany and Netskope will see the mobile operator offer Netskope’s Security Service Edge (SSE) technology to businesses

Netskope has shared that it will offer a Managed Service Provider agreement with o2 Business, Telefónica Germany’s business brand.

Together, the two companies will offer German companies security services, building Netskope’s award winning Security Service Edge (SSE) technology across o2 Business’ security product portfolio.

Netskope expands SSE technology through new Managed Service Provider agreement with o2 Business

Netskope, a global SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) leader, helps organisations apply zero trust principles and AI/ML innovations to protect data and defend against cyber threats. The Netskope One platform and its patented Zero Trust Engine give optimised access and security for people, devices and data. Netskope’s NewEdge network reduces risk and provides stronger visibility into any cloud, web and private application activity offering security without trade-offs.

Telefónica Germany is majority-owned by the Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica S.A., which is based in Madrid, one of the biggest telecommunications groups in the world. In mobile communications, O2 Telefónica runs more than 45m mobile lines, the most in Germany, which reaches over 99% of the population.

In the latest issue of Mobile Magazine, we chose Madrid-based Ángel Alves for our Top 10: Telco Influencers. He has worked at Telefónica for 14 years, first joining as a Radio Access Network Engineer, then progressing to Technology Consultant in 2013, where his work was focused on business process transformation. Finally he became Innovation Project Manager in 2015. Ángel has worked on a range of projects, including the first 5G international video call between Málaga and London and the first 5G e-sports match (shown at MWC 2019).

Security Service Edge (SSE) is a cloud-based security approach which supports policy controls to be applied at the edge of the network, where devices access data and applications.

Placing security and data protection measures closer to the data access point for cloud apps, private apps and web increases their effectiveness while simultaneously improving user experience.

In the industry-lauded Netskope One platform, Netskope SSE uses zero trust principles and AI to:

  • Govern access
  • Protect data
  • Stop threats
  • Enable secure work-from-anywhere connectivity.

This is achieved by using Netskope’s integrated and converged modules, including Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Secure Web Gateway (SWG), ZTNA, Remote Browser Isolation (RBI), Cloud Firewall, SSPM and Digital Experience Management (DEM).

The new managed service will offer Netskope’s capabilities to o2 Business customers, while o2 Business offers them support.

Telefónica's o2 Business and Netskope aim to strengthen security for German companies in the digital age

“The partnership between o2 Business and Netskope supports companies in comprehensively protecting themselves against current and future security threats,” shared Nikolaos Kalivianakis, Director B2B Business Products, Marketing and Solutions at Telefónica Germany. “With the holistic solution from o2 Business, companies are better equipped for the security requirements of digital transformation.”

“o2 is a major brand in the German market, and our partnership is testament to Netskope’s technology leadership,” said Mike Herman, Vice President Channel Sales EMEA and LATAM at Netskope. “Our technology uniquely enables German businesses to address modern security and data protection challenges, and with the addition of o2 Business’ exemplary services and integration we will be even better able to support customers across Germany.”

In 2024, Netskope Intelligent SSE celebrated three years in a row as a Leader in the ‘Gartner Magic Quadrant for Security Service Edge (SSE)’.

In ‘The Forrester Wave™: Security Service Edge Platforms, Q1 2024’ report recognised Netskope as a leader for its work.
