Samsung Electronics Builds Industry’s Thinnest LPDDR5X DRAM

Samsung Electronics: Production of thinnest LPDDR5X DRAM for on-device AI
Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM packages are as thin as a fingernail & allow for enhanced thermal control suitable for on-device AI mobile applications

Samsung Electronics has announced the start of its mass production for 12 nanometer (nm)-class, 12-gigabyte (GB) and 16GB LPDDR5X DRAM packages, which will be the industry’s thinnest and which will secure Samsung’s leadership in the low-power DRAM market.

The super slim LPDDR5X DRAM packages will offer more space within mobile devices and ensure better airflow to support thermal control, which is vital for high-performance applications with advanced features, like on-device AI.

Samsung drives 5G and AI innovation with new LPDDR5X DRAM

Samsung is known for the production of smartphones, tablets, TV’s and other electronic devices. Samsung has pushed for 5G delivery and has services such as radios, chipsets and core network technologies. The company provides commercial 5G services across the world, in particular Korea, the U.S. and Japan.

Samsung also recently unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold6 & Flip6, in partnership with KRAFTON, which come with advanced AI.

Consumer demand for small, high-performance, high-density mobile memory solutions in smaller package sizes is strong. The new LPDDR5X DRAM packages offer:

  • Reduced thickness by 9%
  • Improved heat resistance by over 21%
  • At 0.65mm, it is as thin as a fingernail.

Samsung plans to continue expanding the low-power DRAM market through supplying its 0.65mm LPDDR5X DRAM to both mobile processors and device manufacturers.

“Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM sets a new standard for high-performance on-device AI solutions, offering not only superior LPDDR performance but also advanced thermal management in an ultra-compact package,” said Yong Cheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to continuous innovation through close collaboration with our customers, delivering solutions that meet the future needs of the low-power DRAM market.”

Besides Samsung transforming the insides of devices for a more enjoyable user experience, the Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner has immersed Olympics fans in the Olympic Games across France.

Samsung enhances Paris 2024 experience with Galaxy S24 Ultra technology

Samsung Electronics became a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner in 1997 and has since provided a range of technology for the games. Samsung transformed the Paris 2024 viewer experience with footage captured and shared on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

At the Olympic Games Paris 2024 sailing competition, in Marseille, the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones installed on each boat gave fans an experience of the race as if they were alongside their favourite athletes, racing across the Mediterranean Sea. For the kitesurfing and windsurfing competitions, Galaxy smartphones were attached to the athlete's shoulders and buoys.

Samsung used optimised software and technology to support filming and transmitting this first-of-its-kind footage in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and other Olympic partners.

At the Olympic opening ceremony Samsung installed over 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones at the bow and sides of each of the 85 athlete vessels, for an unmissable view.

“Having been a Worldwide Partner for nearly three decades, we know first-hand how important it is to create and enable the same meaningful connections at the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re honoured to be working closely with the IOC and OBS to provide high quality footage that will be part of a series of firsts at Paris 2024 and bring fans at home and onsite even closer to the excitement.”
